
At least nine people have lost their lives in a tragic accident that occurred in the early hours of Monday along the Ayetoro axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Chief Route Commander and Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe. According to the statement, 13 people were involved in the crash—10 men and three women. Nine fatalities were recorded, consisting of six men and three women, while three others sustained injuries.
The accident reportedly involved a Toyota Hiace bus (registration number UYY165ZY) and a stationary truck (registration number DKA244XC). Excessive speed and driver fatigue were identified as the likely causes of the crash, which resulted in the loss of control before the bus collided with the parked truck.
Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Idera morgue in Sagamu.
Reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander expressed concern over reckless driving, particularly the disregard for speed limits and failure to observe rest breaks during long journeys. He urged drivers to prioritize safety and adhere to regulations to prevent such tragedies.
Families of the victims have been advised to visit the Mowe Unit Command for further information regarding the accident.
