The Osun State High Court in Nigeria has directed the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to proceed with the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

The ruling was delivered on Friday by Justice A. Aderigbigbe in response to a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against OSIEC and its chairman, Hashim Abioye.

The court upheld that there were vacancies in all 30 local government areas following the nullification of the October 15, 2022 local government elections by the Federal High Court in a judgment delivered on November 30, 2022. This decision was later affirmed by the Court of Appeal on January 13, 2025 in the case of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) vs. Action Peoples Party (APP).

Furthermore, the court ordered security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, Army, DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilante groups, to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the election.
