A devastating attack occurred on Wednesday evening at the residence of Mr. Akinola Olabiyi in Ugoba Area, near Airport Road, Akure. The incident resulted in the fatal shooting of Mr. Olabiyi and the kidnapping of his 10-year-old son, Semilore Olabiyi. The mother, who was also present during the attack, was rushed to the hospital and is currently recovering from the shock she sustained during the incident.

The kidnappers have however, made contact with the family of Mr. Olabiyi, demanding an initial ransome of N100m. In a bizarre twist, the kidnappers were said to have chosen to communicate solely in the Hausa language. This development has raised concerns about their identity and motives.

The family, who are originally from Oke-Ogun Area of Oyo State, are pleading with the government of Ondo State to intervene in the matter.

The 80-year-old mother of the deceased, who resides in Agoare, is said to be devastated by the loss of her son.

Meanwhile, the Oke-Ogun Coalition, led by its Chairman, Dr. Bimpe Aderounmu, has called on the Ondo State Police Command and the Police Commissioner to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice. The coalition is demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and the safe release of Semilore Oyabiyi.

The body has urged the police to act swiftly and decisively in addressing the rising insecurity in the state. The coalition also called on the police to work closely with the community and other stakeholders to ensure the safe release of Semilore and the prosecution of the perpetrators.

“We are devastated by the unwholesome incident and it’s so shocking and distasteful. We are disturbed beyond description and the perpetrators must be brought to account soonest, Aderounmu said.

In the same vein, the Ugoba community was said to be in shock following the incident. Residents were reportedly calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
