Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised concerns over alleged attempts to destabilize the state, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call his nephew and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to order.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 16, 2025, Adeleke accused Oyetola of issuing illegal directives to security operatives to enforce a “non-existent court judgment” regarding the reinstatement of sacked local government chairmen in the state. He alleged that the minister was leveraging his relationship with President Tinubu to interfere in Osun’s affairs.
“I, however, regret to inform Mr. President and the public that Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has concluded an arrangement to cause mayhem in Osun State starting from Monday. He is issuing illegal directives to security operatives to enforce illegality simply because he is the nephew of Mr. President,” Adeleke said.
The governor further alleged that Oyetola was working in collaboration with the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to undermine the existing judicial ruling on local governments.
While describing Tinubu as a true democrat and a believer in the rule of law, Adeleke expressed confidence that the President would not support actions that could lead to violence in the state.
“The bone of contention is the brazen effrontery to return to office council chairmen sacked by a subsisting court judgment using a different court decision, which has no consequential order,” the governor’s statement added.
Adeleke clarified that the local government chairmen in question were removed through executive order before he was sworn into office, contrary to claims suggesting otherwise.
The development adds another layer of political tension in Osun State, as the dispute over local government leadership continues to unfold.
