A 29-year-old Islamic teacher, Abdulrahman Bello, has been arrested for the alleged murder of Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education. However, Bello claims he is a “victim of circumstance.”
In a trending video, Bello—who identified himself as Mohammed—denied involvement in Yetunde’s death, stating that she was his girlfriend.
Bello explained that Yetunde visited him on the day of the incident, telling him she had an event at 1 PM and later returned around 3 PM, complaining of hunger. He claimed he went to buy food, and upon his return, he found her gasping for breath.
Speaking in Yoruba, he said:
“My name is Mohammed. I’m a Muslim cleric… The girl is Hafusa. She is my girlfriend. I met her on Facebook.”
He further alleged that Yetunde had previously told him she was asthmatic.
Bello admitted that after Yetunde died, he panicked and dismembered her body, disposing of it at a public refuse dump because he “couldn’t think of a better way.”
“I have never done this before. This is my first time.”
Yetunde was reported missing on February 11, a day after she failed to return home. When police searched Bello’s residence, they discovered her remains, along with fetish items, raising suspicions that this may not have been his first crime.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, while the public remains outraged over the gruesome discovery.
