A heated altercation at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, turned physical when a female student bit a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael, during a dispute over a TikTok recording.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred when Dr. Michael attempted to pass by while the student was filming a dance video in the faculty corridor. The lecturer allegedly tapped her on the shoulder to get through, which the student misinterpreted as an aggressive act.
“The lecturer said, ‘Excuse me,’ but she became upset and exclaimed, ‘Can you imagine how he just hit me?’” an eyewitness recounted.
The disagreement escalated as the student grabbed Dr. Michael’s clothes, leading to a confrontation captured in viral social media videos. In one clip, the lecturer appeared to raise his hands in restraint while the student held onto him forcefully.
Confirming the incident, UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, said the university had launched an investigation. He explained that Dr. Michael allegedly overheard the student insulting him after he passed and returned to confirm if she was one of his students. The lecturer reportedly asked for her phone, suspecting he had been recorded and insisting that the video be deleted. The student allegedly reacted by biting him on both arms.
Images circulating online show visible bite marks on Dr. Michael’s arms.
Reports indicate that the student is a 300-level History and International Studies undergraduate and the daughter of a lecturer in the university’s Engineering Department.
UNIZIK authorities have yet to announce any disciplinary measures, but the university has assured the public that appropriate actions will be taken after the investigation is concluded.
