The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the appeal filed by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, challenging the leadership of the state’s House of Assembly under Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, struck out the case following its withdrawal by Fubara’s counsel, Yusuf Ali. Consequently, the court imposed a cost of ₦2 million against the governor, payable to the Rivers State House of Assembly and Amaewhule.

The ruling marks another legal setback for Fubara in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. The dispute over the Assembly’s leadership has deepened tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
