Saudi Arabia has announced new visa regulations restricting travelers from 14 countries, including Nigeria, to single-entry visas valid for 30 days, with no option for extension.

The policy affects tourists, business travelers, and those visiting family members, but does not apply to applicants for Hajj, Umrah, diplomatic, or residency visas. Other impacted nations include Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen.

Saudi authorities cited widespread misuse of multiple-entry visas, with some travelers using them to remain in the country illegally or participate in Hajj without proper authorization. The government, which enforces strict quotas for Hajj pilgrims, believes unauthorized attendees contributed to the deadly overcrowding crisis in 2024, when over 1,200 people died due to extreme heat and congestion.

Officials have described the suspension as a temporary measure but have not provided a timeline for review. The Saudi government plans to monitor the policy’s impact before making further adjustments.

Travelers from affected countries are advised to apply for single-entry visas well in advance and comply with the new regulations to avoid penalties or travel disruptions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged travelers to stay informed through official channels.
