A devastating gas explosion at Tasiu Gas Plant in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, has caused significant destruction following a failed gas transfer operation.

The explosion, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, was triggered during the transloading of gas from a tanker to a surface tank, setting off a massive fire. The inferno engulfed several parked vehicles and also spread to a nearby grain processing factory, destroying produce worth millions of naira.

The incident comes just weeks after the tragic Dikko fire disaster, which claimed over 100 lives and left many injured.

Confirming the explosion, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, stated that, fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded.

“Ngeil Grains Processing Factory, located behind the gas plant, was also affected by the inferno, with about 550 bags of beans and six bags of soya beans completely destroyed,” Arah said.

As of the time of reporting, emergency responders had successfully contained the fire, preventing further escalation.
