
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the murder of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency.
Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, while returning home for Christmas. His decomposing body was discovered in the early hours of Thursday at the Second Niger Bridge.
Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam confirmed the arrests in a statement on Friday, revealing that a joint security team, including the police and Anambra State Vigilante operatives, carried out the operation. Two pump-action guns were recovered, and one suspect sustained a leg injury during a shootout with the police.
The arrested individuals include Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), Chinonso Olisa (19), Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25), and Peter Sunday (20), who was noted to have a tattoo reading “No peace 4 d Government” on his chest.
