Popular comedian and filmmaker AY Makun has strongly condemned a doctored video circulating online that falsely depicts him kissing actress May Edochie.

The manipulated clip, generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI), surfaced after AY shared footage of himself and May traveling to the UK to promote his latest film, The Waiter.

Reacting on Instagram, AY denounced the misuse of AI to spread misinformation and harm reputations. He expressed disappointment that young Nigerians are leveraging their technological skills for destructive purposes instead of positive innovation.

“Nigeria is rich with potential, and your unique skills—be it in art, music, technology, or entrepreneurship—can drive positive change,” he wrote. “Instead of using creativity to undermine hardworking individuals, let’s focus on uplifting one another.”

He also referenced a similar case involving reality star Alex Asogwa, who was targeted with online misinformation. AY urged youths to use AI responsibly, emphasizing that sabotage only fosters negativity.

“It’s essential to recognize that every action has consequences. When we choose to sabotage others, we only perpetuate a cycle of negativity and destruction,” he stated.

Makun and May Edochie have both faced public scrutiny over their personal lives, with reports of turmoil in AY’s 20-year marriage to Mabel Makun and May’s ongoing issues with her estranged husband, actor Yul Edochie.

The comedian concluded by calling for unity and collaboration, encouraging Nigerians to celebrate each other’s achievements instead of fueling division.
