The Trump administration has deported at least 6,000 migrants in the first two weeks of Donald Trump’s second term, ramping up enforcement efforts against illegal immigration, according to a report by Daily Mail on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Federal data reveals that deportations have averaged between 370 and 400 per day since Trump took office. On Monday alone, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 512 individuals and arrested 715 others for immigration violations. Of those arrested, 73% had prior criminal convictions or pending charges, including homicide, sexual crimes against minors, and drug trafficking.
Authorities have also intensified their crackdown on gang-related activity, detaining six affiliates of the Tren de Aragua cartel along with nine other suspected gang members.
In a controversial move, the administration has begun deporting high-risk individuals to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The first flights, which started on Tuesday, transported gang members and other migrants deemed “high-threat” by U.S. officials. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the development on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Guantanamo Bay will hold the worst of the worst. That starts today.”
The base, historically used as a detention center, is now being repurposed to accommodate deported migrants, with the administration aiming to house up to 30,000 individuals in Cuba.
Since Trump’s inauguration in January, nearly 9,000 immigration violators have been arrested, many with multiple convictions or pending charges. A senior White House official emphasized the administration’s commitment to its immigration policies, stating, “This is just the beginning.”
Speaking from the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump defended the crackdown, declaring, “These people are horrible people… If I can get them out of the country and into some other place that’s glad to have them, that’s great. I’d love to get them the hell out of our country.”
The administration has also expanded deportation flights to countries including Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, and India, reinforcing Trump’s pledge to intensify immigration enforcement.
