The Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has discharged and acquitted former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, of charges related to the alleged forgery of medical documents.

Delivering the ruling on the no-case submission filed by Fani-Kayode’s counsel, Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to establish a prima facie case against him. The judge noted that the prosecution did not provide sufficient evidence linking the defendant to the alleged offence.

The EFCC had accused Fani-Kayode of forging medical reports, which he allegedly used in his ongoing N4.9 billion fraud case before the Federal High Court in Lagos. However, the court ruled that the prosecution’s witnesses and evidence did not prove any wrongdoing on his part.

Following the verdict, Fani-Kayode expressed relief and gratitude, stating that he had been in and out of court for 18 years and was overjoyed to be free from the charges.
