A 17-year-old girl has died after being attacked by a shark while swimming at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, Queensland, about 80 kilometers north of Brisbane.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 5 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2025, following reports of a serious shark bite. Despite efforts to save her, the teenager succumbed to her injuries, Queensland state police confirmed.

Local resident Christopher Potter described the incident as shocking, noting that while sharks are commonly seen around Bribie Island, attacks this close to shore are rare. Authorities have yet to disclose the species of shark involved or announce any additional safety measures in response to the tragedy.
