Former Minister of Interior in Nigeria and ex-Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has publicly reconciled with Sikiru Olaboye, a man who allegedly attempted to assassinate him in 2006.

Aregbesola, who governed Osun from 2010 to 2018, revealed in a Facebook post on Sunday, February 2, 2025, that Olaboye was part of a group that plotted to kill him during the 2006 Oroki Day Celebration in Osogbo, the state capital.

Sharing photos from their meeting, along with images of his bullet-riddled vehicle from the incident, Aregbesola disclosed that Olaboye recently called a local radio station in Osogbo to seek his forgiveness.

“Earlier today, I received Sikiru Olaboye, one of the men who attempted to assassinate me during the 2006 Oroki Day Celebration in Osogbo. I was informed that he called into a local radio station a few weeks ago to seek my forgiveness,” Aregbesola stated.

During their meeting, the former minister prayed for Olaboye and assured him that he harbored no grudges or intentions of revenge, emphasizing that his survival was an act of divine intervention.

“It is God alone who has the power to forgive all our shortcomings. As His servants, I pray that He forgives both his and mine. Aamen!” he added.

This reconciliation comes amid Aregbesola’s recent expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State over alleged anti-party activities. His political group, the Omoluabi Progressives, had already announced their withdrawal from the party before his expulsion.
