Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has secured her second Grammy Award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, winning the Best African Music Performance category for her hit song Love Me Jeje.
The category, introduced in 2023 to recognize the global impact of African music, saw Tems outperform some of the industry’s biggest names, including Burna Boy, Asake, and Wizkid for their collaborative track MMS, as well as Yemi Alade and Chris Brown’s Davido and Lojay-assisted song, Sensational.
This latest victory adds to Tems’ growing list of accolades. She first won a Grammy in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance as a featured artist on Future’s song Wait For U alongside Drake. Since then, she has continued to make waves in the global music scene, collaborating with top international artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Drake while solidifying her place as one of Africa’s most influential voices in contemporary music.
The Grammy Awards, established in 1959, are widely regarded as the most prestigious music honors globally, recognizing outstanding achievements across various genres. The introduction of the Best African Music Performance category reflects the Recording Academy’s commitment to celebrating Africa’s rich musical diversity and its growing influence on the world stage.
Tems’ second Grammy win further cements her legacy as a trailblazer in Afrobeats and a leading figure in the global music industry.
