Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has reaffirmed his stance on governance, stating that he does not belong to the category of politicians who engage in pretenses, likening them to Nollywood actors in politics.

El-Rufai’s remarks came in response to a social media post by an X user, #irahabib, who praised the former governor’s straightforward approach to governance. The user referenced El-Rufai’s book, The Accidental Public Servant, asserting that no politician would include him in their cabinet unless they were genuinely committed to national development.

Reacting to the commendation, El-Rufai tweeted: “Truly, I don’t know how to pretend. Being a Nollywood actor in governance is for some others, not some of us.”

Criticism of APC and Tinubu’s Government

The former governor, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), recently made headlines for his criticism of the party’s internal structure, stating that the APC has lost its democratic essence.

“I no longer recognise the APC. No party organ has met in two years—no caucus, no NEC, nothing. You don’t even know if it is a one-man show; it’s a zero-man show,” he declared, lamenting the lack of internal democracy.

El-Rufai also asserted that his opinions on the Bola Tinubu-led administration would have remained unchanged even if he were still part of the government. His remarks have sparked controversy within the ruling party and drawn sharp responses from government officials.

Presidency Reacts, Accuses El-Rufai of ‘Vengeance Mission’

El-Rufai’s comments prompted a reaction from Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communications to President Tinubu, who accused him of harboring a personal vendetta rather than acting in the country’s best interest.

“They are not borne out of patriotism but need for vengeance. The opposition sees that singular element of vengeance as a veritable tool for your recruitment,” Bwala said.

He urged El-Rufai to abandon any ‘melodramatic activities’ and resolve his grievances in a more diplomatic manner.
