
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has been appointed the new chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum. His election took place during the 5th Meeting of the Forum, where he was entrusted with the role for the next two years.
In his acceptance speech, Buni expressed gratitude to his fellow governors and delegates, pledging to work closely with development partners and stakeholders to advance the region’s development. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “I shall serve with great responsibility and commitment, and will ensure we work in unison for the success of the Forum.”
Buni also acknowledged the leadership of outgoing chairperson, Her Excellency Ildjima Abdraman, Governor of Hadjer Lamis Province, Chad, and thanked her for her significant contributions. He expressed optimism for continued cooperation to achieve the region’s shared goals of peace, security, and sustainable development.
The Governor of Yobe further highlighted the importance of the meeting’s theme, “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,” and reiterated the need to act on its resolutions.
He concluded by expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and support, and to all stakeholders involved in making the meeting a success.
