Protesters stormed the Federal High Court in Abuja, demanding the immediate release of activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, who was summoned on multiple allegations. The allegations include resisting and obstructing public officers, disobeying lawful orders, cyberstalking, and attempting to prevent arrests.

The protesters accused security forces of intimidation, and with a strong police presence on Wednesday, they expressed dissatisfaction with the authorities’ priorities.

The protesters argued that the police should focus on tackling crime and insecurity in Abuja rather than harassing peaceful demonstrators.

Sowore claimed that his summons was politically motivated due to his criticism of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure extension.

He was, however, granted bail following an engagement with the Force Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.

The protest highlighted the ongoing concerns about the Nigerian government’s handling of dissenting voices and the need to protect citizens’ rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
