
The Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully apprehended a suspected notorious gunrunner who was tracked from Niger Republic into Zamfara State. The suspect was presented to Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, at the Government House in Gusau on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to journalists after the presentation, Governor Lawal commended the DSS and other security agencies for their diligence and professionalism in tracking and capturing the suspect. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating criminal activities.
According to the governor, the suspect had been under surveillance for some time and was meticulously tracked from Niger Republic into Zamfara. The operation, which also involved troops from the 1 Brigade of the Joint Task Force Operation Hadarin Daji, was based on intelligence regarding arms dealers operating from Niger Republic.
Security operatives recovered a cache of weapons from the suspect, including two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.
Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in their efforts to rid the state of criminal elements, stressing that collaboration and intelligence-sharing remain key to tackling insecurity.
This latest arrest underscores the effectiveness of cross-border intelligence cooperation in the fight against arms trafficking and organized crime in Nigeria.
