After almost two decades away from Nollywood, veteran actress Bukky Wright is making a highly anticipated return, and this time, she says she’s here to stay.
Having spent over 15 years in the diaspora, Wright is now set to take on significant roles in the Nigerian film industry, signaling an exciting new chapter in her career. Reflecting on her experience back on set, she expressed deep gratitude, particularly to filmmaker Bukola Ogunsola for the opportunity.
“It felt really good. It actually gave me the opportunity to see all these people again. I haven’t seen them in years,” she shared, reminiscing about reuniting with old colleagues.
For many actors, a nearly two-decade hiatus could pose a challenge, but Wright remains confident in her craft, emphasizing that acting is an innate talent for her.
“Although I take on minor roles, I’ll tell you one thing: if it’s inbuilt, then it’s inbuilt. Nothing can take it away from you,” she said.
Her performance in Something About the Briggs serves as a testament to her enduring talent. However, this return isn’t just a brief stint—Wright is committed to reviving her career in Nigeria.
“I’ll stay. I’m going to do more movies in Nigeria during my stay. I have more projects coming, and I’m here to stay,” she affirmed.
Her comeback marks a significant moment for Nollywood, which has evolved tremendously in her absence, with more sophisticated storytelling, global recognition, and diverse platforms.
Since her debut in 1996, Bukky Wright has captivated audiences with her compelling performances in classics like Saworoide (1999) and more recent films such as Iyore (2014) and When Love Happens (2014). With her return, fans can expect to see more of her brilliance on screen once again.
