President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, hosted a closed-door meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, alongside a delegation of Ogoni leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders, came amid ongoing political tensions between Wike and Fubara. However, in a rare display of unity, both leaders were seen smiling in photos shared by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, raising speculation about a possible reconciliation.

The closed-door session followed heightened demands from civil society organizations, urging the Federal Government to allocate $1 trillion for the cleanup of the Niger Delta and compensate residents affected by environmental degradation before crude oil production resumes in Ogoniland.

Although details of the discussions remain undisclosed, the high-profile gathering signals renewed federal intervention in the Niger Delta and could mark a turning point in the lingering Rivers political crisis.
