The Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in collaboration with the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), on Monday, shut down operations at Lagos Television, Eko FM/Radio Lagos, and Lagos Traffic Radio. The action was taken to protest the non-implementation of the N85,000 minimum wage approved by the Lagos State Government.

The workers, who had issued several notices to management regarding their demands, blocked the entrance and exit of the Agidingbi complex housing the broadcast stations. They displayed placards with inscriptions such as “Pay us Minimum Wage,” “Oracle is the answer, it’s all we need,” and “Give us Oracle and take revenue generated.”

State NLC Chairman, Comrade Funmi Sessi, led the peaceful demonstration, emphasizing the workers’ dissatisfaction. “This is an injustice to these workers who have been shortchanged despite their dedication. The Lagos State Government implemented the N85,000 minimum wage in November, yet these workers have not received it. Even the arrears and 13th-month benefits are being denied,” she stated.

Sessi explained that the workers followed due process, issuing a 21-day notice for dialogue, which was later reduced to 14 and seven days. Despite several engagements with management, no resolution was reached.

She appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and ensure the affected workers receive their entitlements, stating that the protest would persist until their demands were met.

“This struggle is for fairness and justice. The management must act promptly to prevent unnecessary disruptions to operations,” Sessi added.
