Nigerian actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has shared the trials and triumphs of his journey in the Yoruba movie industry, revealing how he overcame criticism and found strength in his wife’s unwavering support.
During an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Lateef recounted a significant moment early in his career when a senior colleague predicted his failure within a year. Refusing to be discouraged, Lateef confidently responded, “Give me two years, and you’ll see what I’ll become.”
The actor, now a household name, also opened up about his personal life, including his unconventional proposal to his wife, Bimpe. “I just called her one morning and asked if she would marry me, and she said yes,” he recalled.
Despite facing online trolling and hurtful comments, Lateef commended his wife for her strength and resilience. He shared how she remained steadfast, even when targeted by harsh remarks, including being called barren. “She would show me the comments and say, ‘They’ll be all right,’” he said.
Reflecting on his first major film project, Lisabi, Lateef expressed gratitude for Bimpe’s encouragement during a challenging period when he felt unsupported by others. Her belief in him motivated him to push forward.
