Senator Adams Oshiomhole has commended the developmental strides of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Nigeria , Nyesom Wike, and expressed gratitude to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allowing Wike to serve in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during a New Year luncheon hosted by Wike in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Oshiomhole likened the PDP’s decision to a football club transferring its best player to a rival without demanding a transfer fee.
“Thank you to PDP for giving us Nyesom Wike to help us fix Abuja,” the lawmaker representing Edo North stated. “When you give your best player to another club, you pay heavily. PDP Rivers led you to us without saying we should pay a transfer fee. We may not be happy to return you; we would even create a toll gate to prevent that.”
Oshiomhole praised Wike’s contributions to the development of Abuja and described him as a leader committed to enforcing the rule of law and environmental standards.
“Tonight, we are celebrating a Nigerian who is adding value to the FCT; who is showing there has to be the rule of law and that we must respect certain environmental laws,” he said.
Acknowledging the challenges of the role, Oshiomhole added, “Your job as the FCT Minister means you will step on toes to set things right. Thank you for what you are doing in Nigeria and what you are doing in Abuja.”
Wike, a PDP stalwart, supported Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election following a fallout with his party. His appointment as FCT Minister by Tinubu has been hailed as a testament to his capability and leadership.
The luncheon, attended by political and societal leaders from Rivers State and beyond, underscored Wike’s role as a bridge-builder across party lines and his dedication to national development.
