Nigerian troops have arrested a woman, identified as Shamsiyya, for allegedly attempting to deliver ammunition to a terrorist hideout in Zamfara State. The arrest occurred at a checkpoint while Shamsiyya was traveling from Hanka with the package.
During interrogation, Shamsiyya claimed ignorance about the package’s contents. “I was given the ammunition by a man I did not know,” she stated, describing him as a Hausa man. She added, “I know the ammunition can kill someone, but I didn’t know what was inside the package.”
Shamsiyya admitted she had received transport fare for the delivery but expressed concern for her two children, stating she did not want any harm to come to them.
The arrest is part of heightened security operations in Zamfara and other parts of northern Nigeria, aimed at combating terrorism and reducing attacks by armed groups. The region has seen an escalation in violence, prompting increased military efforts to disrupt the supply chains of insurgents.
The Nigerian military reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying measures to address security challenges in the northeast and surrounding areas.
