Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has come under fire after unexpectedly leaving the stage during his performance at the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 event on Tuesday night.
A viral video showed a fan jumping on stage in an attempt to approach the artist. Security quickly intervened, removing the fan, but Burna Boy abruptly paused his performance and exited the stage without any explanation, leaving the audience stunned.
The incident has sparked heated reactions on social media. Many fans accused Burna Boy of arrogance and unprofessionalism, with some describing his actions as disrespectful to the crowd.
One Twitter user, Ibrahim Malcolm, tweeted, “Just pride and arrogance, somewhat disrespect to the very audience he’s performing for.” Another user, Mezia Abia, added, “Someone paid you for a show, and you left halfway because a fan jumped on stage? It’s hard to justify this.”
However, some defended the artist, arguing that fans had ignored his repeated warnings against jumping on stage during performances.
Twitter user Logan Saman wrote, “He’s warned several times. Why do people keep doing this? It’s disrespectful to the artist.” Another supporter, Mr. Preye, commented, “Fans should love and respect their favorite artists enough to stay in their place.”
As of now, Burna Boy has not issued a statement addressing the controversy.
