The iconic Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, Nigeria, came alive on New Year’s Eve as Nigerian music superstars Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and other A-list artists delivered electrifying performances during the Greater Lagos Countdown 2025.

Organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the annual event brought together thousands of music lovers and celebrants to welcome the New Year in grand style. The show featured a star-studded lineup, including Olamide, Adewale Ayuba, Runtown, Bnxn, Niniola, Nice, Seyi Vibez, and more, creating an unforgettable night of music and excitement.

Wizkid captivated the crowd with his energetic stage presence and chart-topping hits, while Burna Boy’s electrifying performance left fans in awe. Tiwa Savage, often referred to as the Queen of Afrobeats, showcased her powerful vocals and vibrant energy, while Niniola delivered a soulful set that resonated deeply with the audience.

Fuji music legend Adewale Ayuba thrilled fans with nostalgic performances of classics like Ejo and Ijo Fuji, and Nice reignited memories of his Alapomeji days with his unique vibes.

A standout moment of the night was when the host, renowned comedian Gbenga Adeyinka, taught Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu the popular ‘Oblee’ dance moves, much to the delight of the audience.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, addressing the crowd, praised Lagosians for their resilience throughout 2024. “This outgoing year has been one of tremendous opportunities and true resilience that defines Lagosians,” he said. “2025 will be bigger and better for us all.”

The Greater Lagos Countdown was held simultaneously across the five divisions of Lagos State, further uniting residents in celebration.

Organizers promise even grander festivities for 2026 as Lagos cements its place as a hub for world-class cultural and entertainment events.
