Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, has rejected comparisons to the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. In a statement shared on Instagram, the singer clarified his stance, emphasizing that he is focused on positivity, peace, and prosperity.
“All that Burna Boy and Fela talk needs to die now. I’m not Fela; I’m BIG7,” Burna Boy declared. “I’m all about positivity, peace, and prosperity, but honestly, I’d rather kill you than die for you.”
As the year ends, Burna Boy used the opportunity to critique dishonesty within society and called for greater accountability in 2025. He specifically addressed false claims about wealth, referencing fabricated stories about luxury homes and items.
“If you ever lied about buying Sujimoto’s house in Banana Island when you only rented it, do better in 2025,” he stated. He also called out false ownership claims about Elele’s house and fake luxury watches, urging individuals to embrace truthfulness.
The Afro-fusion star lamented the rise of deceit, saying, “It should be a criminal offence to tell as many lies as certain men. The list can go on and on.”
Burna Boy also teased a potential interview with renowned Nigerian TV host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, despite expressing his dislike for interviews. “Ebuka still dey do all those interviews? I no like interview at all, but I go like run one,” he hinted.
Known for hits like African Giant and Last Last, Burna Boy remains a vocal advocate for authenticity in both his music and public statements.
