Telecom operators in Nigeria may secure approval to increase call, SMS, and data tariffs before the end of the first quarter of 2025, according to a senior official from one of the nation’s leading telecom companies.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is likely to grant the approval, enabling the telecom companies to adjust their pricing for services, including calls, text messages, and internet bundles.

While the reason for the potential hike remains unconfirmed, rising operational costs and economic pressures are believed to be key drivers behind the proposed adjustment.

If implemented, this move could significantly impact consumers who rely on these services for communication and business operations.

The NCC has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. However, industry stakeholders and consumer advocacy groups are expected to weigh in as discussions progress, with calls for a balance between the sustainability of telecom operations and affordability for Nigerians.
