
The family of Professor Banji Akintoye, the leader of the Yoruba self-determination movement has announced the passing of his wife, Mrs. Julia Olubusola Akintoye.
In a statement released on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, the family confirmed that Mrs. Akintoye passed away peacefully in the early hours of Christmas Day at the age of 88.
“It is with profound sorrow but even greater gratitude to God for a life extremely well spent that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister, Mrs. Julia Olubusola Akintoye, wife of Professor Banji Akintoye—National Leader of the Yoruba Self-Determination Movement,” the statement read.
The family added, “Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date. The family respectfully requests time to grieve privately during this difficult period.”
Mrs. Akintoye was widely admired for her support of her husband’s advocacy for Yoruba self-determination and her dedication to family and community. The news of her passing has drawn condolences from supporters of the movement and members of the Yoruba community worldwide.
