Renowned counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama has reported that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has established a new operational base in the Indaduwa Forest, approximately three kilometers northwest of Bula village in Sokoto State. This location borders Gundumi, Galadi, Maradun, and Raba, areas already plagued by heightened criminal activities.

In a post on his X handle on Sunday, Makama disclosed that the base, reportedly established three weeks ago, has been linked to a series of recent attacks in the region. These include the blockade of the Isa-Marnona Road and a December 21 ambush on security operatives along the Gundumi-Isa Road.

According to Makama, more than 40 individuals are believed to be held captive at Turji’s new base. Survivors recently freed from captivity have corroborated reports of the gang’s operations, including kidnappings and ambushes.

“Sources suggest that the group operating from the Indaduwa Forest base has been responsible for ambushes, kidnappings, and other criminal activities targeting travellers and residents,” Makama noted.

He further revealed that informants stationed in Marnona and Gidan Rana near the Gundumi-Isa Road allegedly facilitate ransom payments and provide critical intelligence to the gang.

Makama explained that two primary reasons influenced the establishment of Turji’s new camp: conflicts with rival bandit groups and unresolved feuds.

“Turji has an ongoing rivalry with the Maniya group, stemming from a longstanding feud inherited from his father, Rugga Chida,” Makama revealed. “This feud led to a violent clash years ago, resulting in the death of Kachalla Dullun, a prominent Maniya figure.”

He added, “The new base is strategically positioned to challenge the Maniya group’s operations in the Dutsin Gwauro area, which serves as their headquarters.”

Makama warned of the increasing threat posed by Turji’s relocation, highlighting that the group’s new position provides leverage to expand its criminal activities. This development raises concerns about the safety of residents and travellers in the affected areas and the need for intensified security measures.
