The immediate-past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been released from the Kuje Minimum Custodial Centre in Abuja after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

Adamu Duza, spokesperson for the FCT Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), confirmed the development in a statement on Friday evening.

“He [Yahaya Bello] has been released after meeting the bail conditions. He was released this [Friday] evening,” Duza stated.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered Bello’s remand on December 14, pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions. Following the conditions’ completion, Ajibogun Olatubosun, the Controller of NCoS FCT, supervised the ex-governor’s release to ensure all protocols were strictly adhered to.

Yahaya Bello’s legal troubles have drawn national attention. Recently, he was reported to have appealed for a Maitama property to be spared as part of his bail negotiations in an alleged N110.4 billion fraud case. This is just one of several controversies surrounding the former governor, who had also threatened legal action against media outlets for comments attributed to him regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
