Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has addressed her 2018 divorce from ex-husband Tunji Balogun, known as TeeBillz, revealing that she was not responsible for the breakup.
Speaking on The Receipts Podcast, Savage said, “The way our situation happened, he announced it online. I didn’t break up with him, but I was the one being attacked.”
She shared how TeeBillz’s announcement blindsided her while she was struggling with postpartum depression after the birth of their son. “My baby was just a few months old. My body wasn’t the same because I was dealing with postpartum and depression. Only a few people came to see me. Everyone went to him,” she stated.
The singer described how public opinion turned against her after she gave an interview about the breakup. “People were like, ‘How dare you go and talk? You are a woman, and you are supposed to build the house. It’s your fault.’ It was very heartbreaking how the public blamed me,” Savage said.
The painful experience, she said, contributed to her adopting a more rebellious image, adding, “I became the ‘African Bad Girl.’ I started getting tattoos and wearing bikinis and short skirts.”
Savage’s revelations shed light on the emotional challenges she faced during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
