The Oyo State Police Command has detained Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Nigeria, in connection with the tragic stampede that occurred at the school on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that the incident, which claimed the lives of no fewer than 32 children, happened during a children’s carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. The carnival was held on the school premises.
Police Investigation
Sources revealed that Fasasi was invited by the police at around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday to assist in the investigation. However, upon honoring the invitation, he was detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Iyaganku area of Ibadan.
As of the time of this report, Fasasi remains in custody, and no official statement has been made regarding his release.
