A controversial banner reading, “Jesus Christ is not God. He is a Prophet and Messenger of God!” displayed at the gate of the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos State, has been taken down.
The removal was confirmed through a video posted on social media by Adeleke Opeyemi, who captioned it: “The controversial banner has been removed from Lekki Central Mosque. Everyone can rest now. My opinion: No one can fight for God. Religion is a sensitive issue, and we should all take it easy sometimes.”
In the video, Tunde Alabi, a member of the Lekki Muslim Community, verified the removal. He explained that after notifying the mosque committee about the public backlash, he personally visited the site to ensure the banner had been taken down.
“Good evening, everybody. My name is Tunde Alabi. I’m a member of the Lekki Muslim Community. I noticed there was a banner posted in front of our mosque that was causing controversies. I sent a message to the mosque committee, and I was told it had been removed. I came here personally to check, and as you can see, it has actually been removed,” Alabi stated in the video.
The banner, which went viral earlier, sparked widespread debates. While some criticized it as blasphemous, others defended it as a reflection of Islamic teachings or shared beliefs among certain Christian groups.
As of this report, the Lekki Central Mosque has not issued an official statement.
