
Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has reaffirmed her box office dominance with her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which smashed multiple records within days of its release.
The movie, which premiered in cinemas on December 13, 2024, grossed an astounding N206 million as of Monday, December 16, 2024. It also achieved the highest one-day gross in Nigerian cinema history, raking in N87.8 million on its best-performing day.
Everybody Loves Jenifa further set the record for the highest opening weekend admission count in 2024, with 38,353 viewers filling theatres nationwide. Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie now holds the titles of Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend of all time and the biggest opening weekend of 2024.
Celebrating the milestone on Instagram, Akindele shared graphics of the film’s achievements and captioned them:
“Thank you Lord!!! Thank you Nigeria!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!”
The movie, the latest instalment in the beloved Jenifa series, continues the comedic and relatable adventures of Jenifa, played by Funke Akindele. It features a star-studded cast, including Falz, Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, and Layi, among others.
Akindele is no stranger to box office success. Her 2023 film, A Tribe Called Judah, remains Nigeria’s highest-grossing cinema movie of all time.
Everybody Loves Jenifa has solidified Akindele’s status as one of the most successful filmmakers in Nollywood, with audiences embracing her knack for storytelling and relatable humor.
