Taylor Swift continues her record-breaking streak, making history at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) by becoming the most-awarded artist in the event’s history with a total of 49 career wins.

On Thursday night, Swift claimed 10 awards, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Streaming Songs Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album, among others.

The singer, who entered the night tied with Drake at 39 wins, surpassed the rapper after his additional three trophies brought his career total to 42.

In a pre-recorded acceptance speech, Swift expressed gratitude to Billboard and her fans: “Thank you for being the ones who care about our albums and come see us in concert. Everything that’s happened with the Eras Tour and The Tortured Poets Department, I just have to say thank you. It means the world to me that you’ve embraced the things I’ve made and cared so much about my music.”

Swift, who turns 35 on Friday, described the recognition as “the nicest early birthday present” and added, “It’s exactly what I wanted.”

The Grammy-winning artist has been a dominant force on Billboard’s charts in recent years. In 2022, she became the first artist to claim the entire Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 with songs from her album Midnights. Earlier this year, she broke her own record by holding the top 14 spots on the Hot 100 following the release of The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD).

TTPD also spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, marking the longest streak of her career. Additionally, in 2023, Swift became the only living artist to have five albums simultaneously ranked in the Billboard 200’s top 10.

The 2024 Billboard Music Awards, hosted by comedian Michelle Buteau, aired on FOX and featured performances by Coldplay, Linkin Park, Shaboozey, and others.
