South African singer Tyla has solidified her position as a global force in Afrobeats, winning two prestigious awards at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

Tyla won the Top Afrobeats Song award for her international hit “Water” and was also crowned Top Afrobeats Artist, beating Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Asake, Rema, and Tems.

These achievements cap off an outstanding year for Tyla, who has continued to rise on the global music stage. Earlier this year, she made history by winning the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance for “Water” and claimed Best Afrobeats Music Video at the MTV Video Music Awards in September.

With eight nominations at the Billboard awards, Tyla’s success demonstrates her growing influence in the international music scene, surpassing some of Africa’s most celebrated artists.

Elsewhere at the ceremony, Taylor Swift cemented her legacy as the most decorated artist in Billboard Music Awards history, taking home ten awards, including Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album.
