The Nigerian Senate has ordered the arrest of the Managing Director/CEO of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Peer Lubasch, for failing to appear before its committee on works. This action follows the Senate’s adoption of a motion raised by Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu (PDP-Enugu West) during Tuesday’s plenary session.

The motion, co-sponsored by Senators Asuquo Ekpeyong (APC-Cross River South) and Barinada Mpigi (PDP-Rivers South East), highlighted the company’s repeated refusal to address questions concerning abandoned projects and concerning contract variations, which surged from N54 billion to N195 billion.

Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was mandated to issue a warrant of arrest to compel Lubasch’s appearance before the committee at a date to be set by the Senate. The resolution aims to hold the company accountable for its role in the country’s infrastructure development.

Details on the date for the warrant will be communicated in due course.
