The NFL has reaffirmed its commitment to its partnership with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation despite recent allegations that the rapper and businessman sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in 2000. The allegations were included in an amended lawsuit filed by a woman who also accused Sean “Diddy” Combs of assaulting her at the same event.
Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, has strongly denied the claims, describing them as “heinous” and urging the accuser to file a criminal complaint rather than a civil one. “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away,” Carter said in a statement.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the issue during a league meeting in Irving, Texas, stating that the league’s partnership with Roc Nation remains unchanged. “We are aware of the civil allegations and Jay-Z’s strong response,” Goodell said. “From our standpoint, our relationship is not changing, including our preparation for the next Super Bowl.”
The NFL’s partnership with Roc Nation, established in 2019, involves curating artists for league events and advancing social justice initiatives. Goodell highlighted the value of the collaboration, saying, “They’ve been great partners, providing significant contributions not just to the Super Bowl but other events and social justice efforts.”
Jay-Z’s attorneys have filed a motion requesting the court to dismiss the lawsuit unless the accuser reveals her identity. The case continues to unfold as both parties await further legal developments.
