Nigeria’s national grid has experienced its 12th collapse this year, plunging parts of the country into darkness on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The collapse occurred at approximately 2:09 PM, as confirmed by a tweet from the official handle of Nigeria’s National Grid, which stated, “The major grid setback has occurred, and the restoration is to commence.”

Similarly, the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos Disco) issued a statement reporting the incident at about 1:33 PM. The company informed its customers of the loss of power supply to its feeders, with efforts underway to restore normalcy.

Dr. Friday Elijah, Head of Corporate Communications for Jos Disco, assured customers that normal power supply would be restored once the grid stabilizes.

This marks the 12th grid collapse in 2024, with 11 recorded from January to November, highlighting the challenges facing Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.
