Renowned Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has refuted claims that he is underrated in the Nigerian film industry. The Nupe-born actor, speaking during a recent episode of the Talk To B podcast, declared that he is among the highest-paid Yoruba-speaking actors in the country.
“A lot of people say Ibrahim Chatta is underrated. No, I’m not,” he asserted. “I’m one of the highest-paid Yoruba-speaking actors in Nigeria.”
Chatta, who has built a successful career in acting and music, reflected on his humble beginnings. He described himself as a “studio rat,” recounting his early days composing jingles and soundtracks for movies.
“I gave myself responsibility because I discovered it would make me stronger,” he explained. “At a point, I told my mum I was comfortable and that she shouldn’t bother sending me foodstuffs. But honestly, I wasn’t comfortable. I worked as a bus conductor for weeks to sustain myself.”
He added, “I got lucky and started writing and composing movie soundtracks. I did soundtracks for over 400 films and promotional jingles for over 400 companies before becoming recognized as an actor.”
Chatta emphasized that his challenging journey contributed to his resilience and eventual stardom. Today, he is celebrated as one of the most versatile actors in the Yoruba movie industry.
