The Chairman of the Northern Coalition Group (CNG), Nastura Ashir Shariff, has attributed the lingering insecurity in Northern Nigeria to the lack of synergy between the Army and Air Force. Shariff made this statement at a stakeholders’ engagement on security in Northern Nigeria, held in Kano, with the theme “Changing the Narratives of Insecurity in Northern Nigeria.”
According to Shariff, the disagreement between the two military bodies resulted in the loss of over 300 lives in Zamfara State. He emphasized that the lack of a definite, coherent, and effective strategy to tackle insecurity is a significant challenge.
The CNG chairman highlighted the importance of engaging artists and social media influencers in the fight against insecurity, as they can play a significant role in promoting peace and security in the region. He noted that entertainers have the ability to pass messages across to the society, including to the bandits, who are active on social media platforms.
Shariff also revealed that the CNG has met with retired security personnel and presented their blueprint for tackling insecurity, which received praise and approval for implementation.
The event’s chairman, retired Assistant Director General of DSS, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad Katsina, expressed concern over the various problems facing the North, including drug addiction, youth restiveness, banditry, kidnapping, and Boko Haram. He urged entertainers to change the negative narratives about the Northern region by portraying it as peaceful and developed, which could attract investors and promote economic development.
The entertainers present at the event agreed to provide maximum support towards achieving the set goals. The engagement aimed to bring together stakeholders to promote peace and security in Northern Nigeria.
