The Nigeria Police Force has charged 113 foreign nationals before the Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged involvement in cybercrime, immigration violations, and human trafficking.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrests were made during a joint operation by the National Cyber Crime Centre and Zone 7 Command on November 3, 2024, in the Jahi suburb of the Federal Capital Territory.
“The suspects are facing serious charges, including computer-related fraud, unlawful access to data, marketing scams, money laundering, conspiracy, and illegal immigration,” Adejobi stated.
During the operation, law enforcement agents seized a range of sophisticated digital tools, including laptops, smartphones, drones, gaming devices, high-capacity servers, and multiple SIM cards. Other confiscated items included international passports, travel documents, a Black Toyota Tundra vehicle, and a Harman/Kardon sound system.
“These assets are suspected to have been used in executing various cybercrime activities, such as unauthorized data breaches and marketing scams. This underscores the global threat posed by cross-border cybercriminal syndicates,” the statement added.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to leveraging technological advancements to safeguard Nigeria in the digital space. “We are dedicated and equipped to combat cybercrime in all forms,” he said.
The police also pledged to collaborate with international law enforcement agencies and embassies to address the growing challenge of transnational crimes.
