Ghana’s hopes of participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have been dashed after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday.

The Black Stars started strong with a spectacular free kick by Jordan Ayew in the 18th minute, giving fans a glimmer of hope. Goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen further bolstered the team’s prospects with a crucial penalty save, maintaining their narrow lead into halftime.

However, Angola’s persistence paid off in the second half when substitute Zini capitalized on a defensive lapse to head in the equalizer. The result effectively ended Ghana’s qualification chances, marking their first absence from AFCON since 2004.

While Angola secured their spot in the tournament, Sudan remains in a favorable position to qualify with a single point in their final match. Niger also retains a slim chance of advancing if they beat Ghana and Sudan loses.

Ghana will wrap up their disappointing campaign against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday. This failure has raised questions about the Black Stars’ form and strategy, leaving fans and analysts to ponder the team’s future.
