The black box of the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, which crashed on October 24, 2024, in the Atlantic Ocean near Bonny Finima, has been recovered and transported to Abuja for analysis. Tragically, three of the eight passengers onboard the Eastwind Aviation helicopter remain missing. The crash occurred while transporting personnel to the NNPLC facility.

At a press conference, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, extended condolences to the victims’ families and outlined the extensive search efforts, which mobilized over 60 personnel and advanced equipment. Five bodies were recovered during the 14-day search, while the wreckage was found at a depth of 42 meters. The flight recorder will undergo further examination to aid in identifying the cause of the accident, with findings expected to be published within 30 days.

The search for the remaining bodies continues, and the investigation will include cooperation with the U.S. and France, given their roles in the aircraft’s design and manufacture.
