The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has expressed concern over the rising influx of irregular migrants into Nigeria, with Edo State Controller Martins Moye issuing a public call for increased awareness to combat this growing issue.

Speaking at the 2024 NIS Enlightenment Campaign against irregular migration in Benin, the capital of Edo State, Moye highlighted the alarming rate of unauthorized entries into the country, stressing the need for stronger public awareness efforts. “We must work together to curb irregular migration, as it poses significant security and economic challenges,” Moye emphasized.

David Amanahu, a facilitator from the NIS headquarters in Abuja, underscored Edo State’s historical association with irregular migration but noted recent improvements due to efforts by the local NIS command. “Edo State is no longer ranked number one in irregular migration,” he said, attributing the progress to the “dedicated team in Edo who worked tirelessly to improve the situation.”

Amanahu also relayed a message from Controller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, emphasizing the agency’s renewed focus on border management and migration issues.
