Edo State’s newly sworn-in governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has dissolved the executives of all state boards, agencies, and parastatals. In a statement released Wednesday, the governor also announced the dismissal of all political appointees and the termination of contracts for permanent secretaries appointed from outside the state’s public service.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State has approved the dissolution of Executives of all Boards, Agencies, and Parastatals in the Edo State Public Service with immediate effect,” read the statement from Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary.

Additionally, Okpebholo issued an immediate and indefinite suspension of revenue collection within the state, particularly targeting fees in motor parks and other revenue sources. In a firm warning, the governor instructed the Edo State Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone who violates this order.

“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested,” Okpebholo declared. “The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised, and new directives will follow shortly.”

Governor Okpebholo’s recent actions come days after his inauguration at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, marking the end of Godwin Obaseki’s eight-year administration.
