The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has highlighted that the saga involving popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, underscores broader institutional issues within Nigeria. The controversy centers around Bobrisky’s alleged payments to Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officials for preferential treatment during a recent jail term for naira abuse. In a viral audio clip, he claimed to have bribed prison officials to secure special privileges, an allegation that prompted investigations and suspensions within the NCoS.
Minister Tunji-Ojo, addressing the matter on Channels Television’s Politics Today, stated, “When you have an institutional problem, you don’t just provide a knee-jerk approach to solving it.” He emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms to prevent similar issues in the future.
The Federal Government has since launched a committee to investigate these allegations and tackle broader concerns within the prison system.
